Tyranny of Health, Part 2

July 25th, 2005 by

The use of public health by statists to control every aspect of our lives continues apace. Drudge points to a report showing that NY is now poised to make diabetes a reportable disease, with the state intervening in the lives of diabetics. Once again, the argument is “since we pay for health care, it is only reasonable that we should be able to control your life.” There is no civil liberty that cannot be abrogated in this manner, and there is no liberty that health nazis consider important. The pattern described in The Tyranny of Health: Doctors and the Regulation of Lifestyle by Michael Fitzpatrick and For Your Own Good by Jacob Sullum is moving right along. I have seen few people who hold our civil liberties in as much contempt as public health people with a bug up their ass.
